Courage to Lead Launches in Kenya!
An Inspiring Start to an Eight-Week Journey ICA Canada is delighted to announce the launch of its eight-week Courage to Lead (CTL) series in partnership with ICA Kenya. This international collaboration brings together participants in Kenya and a dedicated team of Guides from Canada, the United States, and Taiwan, including Larry Philbrook of ICA Taiwan. The opening session introduced participants to the Courage to Lead approach to leadership, which encourages individuals to reflect on their lived experiences, discover what matters most to them, and recognize their capacity to lead from where they stand. Exploring Everyday Care The first session focused on Everyday Care, exploring how caring gives significance to our lives and influences our relationships, actions, and leadership. Participants shared thoughtful reflections, including: “Care is something you enjoy doing...and people will be inspired by the way you handle care.” “Care is as it is, without expecting anything back.” “Sharing is a lifestyle.” These reflections captured the spirit of the session and highlighted the many ways care can be expressed in everyday life. A Global Gathering!
Appreciating Community at the Online Global Celebration On October 6, ICA Canada welcomed friends and colleagues from around the world for a special online celebration marking our 50th Anniversary! Participants from Canada, the United States, China, France, Nepal, Zimbabwe, and beyond came together to reconnect, share stories, and reflect on five decades of community development, leadership, and global collaboration. Facilitated by Suzanne Jackson, the gathering featured a Journey Wall (Historical Scan) presented by Jo Nelson, highlighting key milestones, programs, publications, and partnerships that have shaped ICA Canada's work over the years. In small-group conversations, participants shared personal stories of connection and impact, highlighting the influence of Courage to Lead, the Technology of Participation (ToP), and ICA Canada's work in leadership development and community empowerment around the world. Looking ahead, participants shared hopes for continued research, publications, global collaboration, and new opportunities to bring ICA Canada's approaches to future generations. ICA Canada Celebrates it’s 50th Anniversary!
50 Years of ICA Canada – You're Invited! This year marks a very special milestone as ICA Canada celebrates 50 years of fostering positive social change in Canada and around the world. This fall, we’ll be taking time to reflect on the people, partnerships, programs and ideas that have shaped ICA Canada over five decades — while also looking ahead to the next chapter of our work. Our anniversary activities have already included an online Journey Wall/Historical Scan that was facilitated by Jo Nelson on September 28, and an online Global Celebration with the ICA International community that was led by Suzanne Jackson on October 6. The celebrations will culminate in our 50th Anniversary Celebration in Toronto on November 7, bringing together members of the ICA Canada community to honour our past, celebrate the present and look toward the future. Planning for the anniversary has itself become a wonderful community effort. We are deeply grateful to the volunteers, current and former staff, Board members, ICA Associates, and other members of the ICA Canada community who are contributing their time, memories, photographs, ideas and creativity to help bring the celebrations to life.
